For more than 75 years, the very convivial White Horse Inn bar has served the gay and lesbian community of the Bay Area, catering to college students from nearby U Cal Berkeley, visiting queers from across the Bay Bridge in San Francisco, and regular Janes and Joes in the grittier city of Oakland. The still-festive bar is in Oakland, right by the Berkeley border. These days it keeps busy by holding a variety of cool theme nights. It also has a delightful patio area, perfect on a warm evening.
