Melrose Spa, West Hollywood, California

Although technically in Hollywood, this is the closest men’s bathhouse to the Santa Monica Boulevard GLBT nightlife action in West Hollywood. Melrose Spa is part of the Midtown Spa gay bathhouse chain, which has two other locations in the Los Angeles area (Midtowne Spa in downtown L.A., and 1350 Club, in the city of Wilmington – down near San Pedro and Long Beach). Set on Melrose Avenue near La Brea, Melrose Spa is open 24/7 and caters to a cross section of WeHo guys, from Latinos to leather.

Barcelonetta Beach gay section, Barcelona, Spain

One of a few excellent gay beaches in the bustling and sophisticated Spanish city of Barcelona, the beach at Barceloneta can be easily walked to from the Barceloneta metro stop, or by walking south (heading to the right) from the Olympic Port/Marina Village area. You can also take an aerial tram to the beach from Parc de Montjuic. The beachfront here is typically packed with hot guys and women, and there are several lively cafes and mainstream though gay-friendly bars along the beachfront here.

Sidelines Sports Bar and Billiards, Charlotte, North Carolina

In the same shopping center as the Eagle gay leather bar in Charlotte’s South Side, friendly Sidelines Sports Bar and Billiards Hall is a convivial place to socialize, drawing a mix of gay guys and lesbians to shoot pool, play darts, watch football and basketball on huge TV screens, play Nintendo Wii games, and basically have a good time. A welcoming staff, eclectic crowd, and excellent beer selection make this spot a winner, although the location is a 10- to 15-minute drive south of downtown.

St. Petersburg Gay Beach

It takes a little effort to find it, but the gay beach on Treasure Island in greater St. Petersburg is one of the loveliest stretches of sand in the region. Years ago a gay nightclub along the beach, called Bedrocks, drew revelers to this narrow spot backed by dunes.
